Remi Joins Cohort 6 of the Visa Africa FinTech Accelerator

Some good news to close out September. Remi has joined Cohort 6 of the Visa Africa FinTech Accelerator, run by Visa in partnership with Plug and Play. For the next three months we'll be working alongside Visa's teams, mentors and investors, and a group of founders building for Africa.

About the program

The Visa Africa FinTech Accelerator backs fintechs building for the continent with mentorship, strategic guidance and direct access to Visa's global network. Across its first five cohorts it's supported more than 100 startups.

Cohort 6 runs for three months in a hybrid format: an onboarding week, virtual focus weeks, an investor week and an in-person Demo Day to close it out.

Why it matters for Remi

Moving money into Africa is still slower and more expensive than it should be. The thing is, most of that cost doesn't come from the money itself. It comes from the handoffs between banks, exchange houses and payout partners that don't coordinate with each other, each one adding a delay, a fee and another pot of idle pre-funded cash.

That's the layer we're building: settlement infrastructure that lets financial institutions move value across borders through one coordinated network.

A program built around Visa's network is the right room for that work. We get to test our thinking with people who've spent decades moving money at scale, and we get to do it next to founders tackling the same problems in other African markets.

What's next

Over the next three months we'll use the program to sharpen how we work with financial institutions, meet the investors and mentors the program brings into the room and keep building toward launch on our first corridor. We'll share more at Demo Day.

A big thank you to the Visa and Plug and Play teams for having us, and to our fellow Cohort 6 founders for a first week full of good questions.

Tony Amer, Co-founder and CEO of Remi: "Cross-border payments into Africa don't need more apps, they need better plumbing between the institutions already moving the money. Joining the Visa Africa FinTech Accelerator puts us in a room with people who know that best. We're grateful to be here and excited to get to work.”
